IRAP

Interleukin-1 Receptor Antagonist Protein (IRAP) is produced by collecting the horse’s own blood, incubating it for 24 hours in a specialized syringe that concentrates the IRAP, and then drawing off the serum. Interleukin-1 is a major mediator of inflammation and degradation in joints, and so this antagonist protein decreases those effects. IRAP may be injected into joints inflamed with synovitis, capsulitis, and osteoarthritis. It may be recommended in post-surgical joints as well. We also will recommend IRAP to be injected surrounding the proximal origin of the suspensory ligament in some horses with proximal suspensory desmitis.
