Burwash Equine Services is proud to offer an equine internship program for graduate veterinarians.
We are committed to excellence in the continued training of equine veterinarians, and are excited to offer two equine internship positions for graduate veterinarians. These are year long positions for vets in their first year of practice. Our goal is for interns to become fully competent and confident in general equine practice as they take part in our collaborative team approach to compassionate care. Our first two interns finished their program in June 2018, and our 2018/2019 interns have started off the year well. We have accepted two more candidates for the 2019/2020 year. If you are considering an internship for the 2020/2021 year, we encourage you to complete an externship with us prior to October 2019.
Interns rotate every two weeks between ambulatory and in clinic responsibilities. The majority of cases seen during regular business hours are worked up in conjunction with a senior veterinarian. On call duties are shared at 50%. Interns are expected to be on site at the clinic when on call; each intern has two weekends a month when they are considered unavailable. A senior veterinarian is available for backup call at all times, and is in attendance for emergency referrals throughout the internship, as well as for all after hours calls in the first two months of the internship.
Interns are expected to participate in daily case rounds, contribute to journal club, and give two presentations over the course of the internship.
