Dr. Katy White, DVM

Dr. Katy White was born and raised in Banff, Alberta. Since her first backcountry horseback trip in the Rockies as a toddler, Katy has felt a strong connection to horses. With some of her happiest moments on horseback, it was a natural progression to competing in 3-day eventing across North America and eventually training young sport and race horses for sale in New Zealand. Katy continued to ride upon her return to Canada where she completed an undergraduate degree at the University of Victoria and started working in veterinary clinics including Burwash Equine to gain exposure to the profession.

Katy has worked in a variety of areas of veterinary medicine from small animal emergency practice to bovine medicine, rural mixed animal practice, and humanitarian veterinary work in Kenya. However, her passion for horses has never wavered. While earning her DVM from the University of Calgary, Katy specifically pursued her interest in equine sports medicine through student positions and externships at referral equine hospitals in Canada and the USA. She graduated top of her class from UCVM in 2019 and then moved to Colorado to complete a rotating internship in emergency & critical care, internal medicine, surgery, and sports medicine at Littleton Equine Medical Center. Following completion of her internship, Katy practiced for 2 years as an ambulatory equine veterinarian on southern Vancouver Island where she had the opportunity to work with a wide range of horses from backyard miniature donkeys to world-class equine competitors.

Katy has specific interest in lameness and sports medicine though she enjoys all aspects of general practice. She particularly enjoys diagnostic imaging including having experience in endoscopic procedures such as gastroscopy. When Katy is not practicing, she enjoys all aspects of getting outside including skiing, hiking, canoeing, and mountain biking with her husband Colby.

Katy is licensed to practice in both Alberta and British Columbia.
